Army chief calls on President at Bangabhaban
President Mohammad Shahabuddin today appreciated the efficiency and professionalism of Bangladesh Army to normalize the country's law and order situation as chief of army staff general Waker-Uz-Zaman called on him at Bangabhaban.
"During the meeting, the President was apprised of about the country's prevailing situation and their overall activities by the Army Chief," President's press secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.
The head of the state condemned the destructive activities in various important establishments, including Bangladesh Television and metrorail.
The anti-liberation forces, he said, are trying to destroy the country's development and establishing their narrow political interest through different destructive activities.
President Shahabuddin said the arms forces have been playing important role to protect the country's independence and sovereignty.
The army, he said, had achieved confidence of the countrymen by serving them during its tough time.
The President thanked the government for taking timely decision of the army deployment to bring normalcy across the country. The overall situation of the country will be normal and run usual activities very soon, he hoped.
During the meeting, the army chief said 27,000 army personnel have been deployed in 57 districts, including the capital city.
He said members of the Bangladesh Army are cooperating with the civil administration to maintain the law and order of the country and to ensure the security of the lives and properties.
The Bangladesh army will be in the field as long as it is needed to normalize the country's law and order situation, the army chief added.
Secretaries concerned to the president's office were present in the meeting.
