CEC Habibul Awal tests positive for Covid-19

Chief election commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has tested positive for Covid-19.

In his absence, senior election commissioner Ahsan Habib Khan will be the acting CEC, the commission said in an office order on Thursday.

The EC unveiled its plan of action regarding the 12th national parliamentary elections at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday.

CEC Kazi Habibul Awal skipped the event at the eleventh hour due to his sickness and election commissioner Ahsan Habib Khan addressed it as the chief guest.

Later on Thursday morning, the CEC himself told other election commissioners about his Covid contraction.
