Civil right organisation Citizens for Good Governance (Shujan) has started collecting mass signature demanding the formation of the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate into allegation of corruption and severe misconduct brought against the election commission (EC).

Adviser of a former caretaker government and president of Shujan M Hafizuddin Khan inaugurated the campaign online on Wednesday.

On 14 December last year, 42 eminent citizens of the country submitted an appeal to president calling for a probe by the Supreme Judicial Council into the allegations of financial irregularities and misconduct by the EC.

They also made the similar appeal on 17 January this year. Since they haven’t received any response from the president as yet, the mass signature campaign has been launched.

Shujan secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar said the campaign will run for a month for now. Later, the signature will be given to the president so that he can realise that not only the 42 eminent citizens but also many citizens of the country are concerned over the matter.

Shujan president M Hafizuddin Khan said the EC has failed in carrying out its duty. Since the demand for formation of the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate into allegation of corruption and severe misconduct haven’t been met, they now started the mass signature campaign, he added.

Anyone can put a signature on Facebook page of Shujan while its activists will also collect signature maintaining health rules.
