All offices, edu institutions to open Tuesday: ISPR

Curfew will remain imposed from 12:00 am to 6:00 am on Tuesday while all government and semi-government offices, private offices, factories and all educational institutions including schools, colleges, madrasah and universities will open tomorrow.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said this in a statement on Monday night.

Students from various educational institutions gather at the central Shaheed Minar at around 10:00am to join 'March to Dhaka' programme today, Monday called by student Against Discrimination Movement. Police fired teargas and sound grenades to disperse them.

Thousands of people take to the streets in Jatrabari of Dhaka. On the other hand police have taken positions at the Jatrabari police station area. Members of army with armour vehicles have been seen there.

Police were firing teargas and sound grenades targeting the protestors till filing this report at 11:00am.

Chief of general staff of Bangladesh Army Waker-Uz-Zaman will address the nation at 2:00 pm today, Monday.

Broadband Internet has been restored. A source reported that a government agency gave the verbal directive to restore the internet at around 1:15 pm today, Monday.

However, there has been no direction about restoring the mobile internet yet. The source also stated that no direction has been given about restoring social media platforms including Facebook. 

Chief of army staff general Waker-uz-Zaman is holding meeting with leaders of different political parties and civil society members at the army headquarters.

Jatiya Party co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud and the party secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu have also been called in.

Professor at the law department of Dhaka University, Asif Nazrul, has also got an invitation to attend the meeting with the chief of army staff general Waker-uz-Zaman.

A military helicopter with Sheikh Hasina took off from Ganabhaban at around 2:30pm on Monday. At the time, Sheikh Rehana was with her. Sources concerned said they in helicopter set out for West Bengal of India.

News agency AFP said Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana left Ganabhaban safely. Sheikh Hasina wanted to record an address. But she didn't get the opportunity.

Chief of general staff of Bangladesh Army Waker-Uz-Zaman has said prime minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned.

The army chief said an interim governent will be formed through a discussion.

He also assured that perpetrators of all killings will be brought to book.

"Maintain peace and tranquility in the country. We will be able to run the country nicely," Waker-Uz-Zaman said.

Protestors have set fire to Awami League Dhaka district office. They set the fire at around 4:00pm on Monday. At the time, the fire spread to a nearby gas cylinder shop.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the countrymen to remain peaceful. In a statement, he said a good meeting has been held with the chief of general staff of Bangladesh Army Waker-Uz-Zaman. He told me to convey the message to the country men 

Protestors are vandalising the residence of the chief justice. A number of people were climbing the boundary wall of the chief justice's residence at Hare Road No 19. Shouting and vandalism were heard from inside.  

Helicopter carrying prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has resigned, will land soon in New Delhi, the capital of India. Quoting a source, India Today in Live said Sheikh Hasina may stay in Delhi or go to London.

Protesters have set fire at Dhanmondi’s Shudha Sadan also. Around 5:30 in the afternoon it was seen that Shudha sadan had been vandalised. A fire was set inside the house also. People were dragging out belongings out of the house and taking them away. 

After resigning from the post of prime minister, the helicopter carrying Sheikh Hasina has landed in the Indian capital New Delhi, the country's media outlet India Today in Live has said.

The helicopter landed at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad of New Delhi at around 5:36pm. The Indian army welcomed her. She will fly for London from there.

A source said Sheikh Hasina will stay in New Delhi for a few days. Later, she will go to London.

Students Against Discrimination will present the outline of national government at 8:00 pm, leaders of the platform told at a live programme at a private TV channel in the evening.

They will reveal the outline at the SAARC Fountain in the capital's Karwan Bazar.

Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy said her mother will no longer return to politics, BBC reports.

Sheikh Hasina’s son has told the BBC that there will be no political comeback for his mother, saying she was "so disappointed that after all her hard work, for a minority to rise up against her".

Speaking to Newshour on the BBC World Service, Sajeeb Wazed Joy - who was an official adviser of the prime minister until today - says his mother had been considering resigning since yesterday and had left the country for her own safety after her family insisted.

Defending his mother’s record in power, Sajeeb Wazed was quoted as saying, “She has turned Bangladesh around. When she took over power it was considered a failing state. It was a poor country. Until today it was considered one of the rising tigers of Asia. She’s very disappointed.”

He, however, rejects accusations that the government had been heavy-handed in dealing with protestors, “You’ve had policemen beaten to death – 13 just yesterday. So what do you expect the police to do when mobs are beating people to death?”

BNP chairperson Kaleda Zia has called people from all walks of life to remain clam amid the ongoing nationwide situation. BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman also made a similar call. BNP chairperson's press wing officer Shamsuddin Didar said these in a press release.

Large number of protesters broke the main gate of the police hedqauters in Dhaka around 6:00 am, and stromed the facility before vandalising the the building. Police officials took shelters at thier rooms switching off the lights. As the situation improved a little, they jumped off the wall and left.

India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned today, at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad, India where she arrived from Dhaka. Sheikh Hasina landed in Delhi at 5.36 pm at the Hindon Air Base where Air Force officials received her. She is likely to fly to London, India Today reports.

United Kingdom has expressed concerns over the situation in Bangladesh and called for swift action necessaery to ensure that democracy prevails.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's ofice said these following the resignation of Sehikh Hasina, who feld to India in the evening.

The British PM's office said, "We are obviously deeply concerned by the violence we've seen in Bangladesh in recent weeks and that has obviously escalated in recent days. The very significant loss of life, including of students, children and law enforcement officers, is completely unacceptable.

"The right to peaceful protest must be protected and never subject to violence and we call on the authorities to release all peaceful protesters and ensure due process is followed for those charged and prosecuted.

"We hope that swift action is taken to ensure that democracy prevails and accelerate the process towards peace and security to people in Bangladesh."

The outline of an interim government will be formulated in the next 24 hours, said Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of Student Against Discrimination.

He said they have dedicated this uprising to the martyred students and people.

Nahid Islam said this at a press conference at the capital's Tejgaon on Monday night where other coordinators were also present.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin held a meeting with the leaders of various political parties and the representatives of civil society at Bangabhaban in the presence of the chief of three forces.

A decision has been taken to form an interim government as soon as possible by dissolving parliament. The army will also take measures to normalise the prevailed anarchic situation.

The interim government will be formed soon after dissolving the 12th parliament. All including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia and students detained in the movement will be released.

President Muhammad Sahabuddin said this in his address to the nation regarding the ongoing situation. He addressed the nation on Monday (5 August).
