Three more upazilas to be created: Govt
The government has decided to create three new upazilas in the country. They are: Eidgaon thana of Cox’s Bazar, Dasar thana of Madaripur and Madhayanagar thana of Sunamganj.
With the latest ones the total number of upazilas in the country would be 495.
Besides, the name of South Sunamganj upazila in Sunamganj has been changed to Shantiganj.
The decision was taken at a meeting of National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reform (NICAR) on Monday. The meeting was chaired by prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Later, cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam announced the decision taken by NICAR and the cabinet at a press conference at the secretariat.
