US State Dept’s latest evaluation of RAB, police’s role appropriate: Hasan
Information and Broadcasting minister Hasan Mahmud termed the latest assessment of the State Department of United States to commend RAB and police forces of Bangladesh for their praiseworthy role in curving militancy and terrorism as appropriate on Saturday.
“The State Department of the United States on Thursday has said that the militancy and terrorism activities of Bangladesh have decreased for RAB, counter terrorism of police and community policing system. This is the real scenario and the evaluation of the US is appropriate. In that report, they praised the role of RAB and said that only three incidents of militancy and terrorism took place in 2020 and no deaths occurred,” he told reporters.
The minister stated these while addressing a discussion at Bangladesh Betar in city’s Agargaon.
Bangladesh Betar organised the discussion marking the golden jubilee of Independence, Victory Day and 82nd founding anniversary of the state owned radio.
Hasan said, in fact, militancy and terrorism activities have been decreased in the country for the active roles of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), counter terrorism of police and other wings of police. “Many developed countries of the world could not able to curve militancy and terrorism which we did and we have technical cooperation with the United States in this regard. The assessment of our friendly country the USA is appropriate,” he added.
In the function, the minister praised the role of Bangladesh Betar in producing programmes for the welfare the country and its people and creating mind of masses.
Information and Broadcasting secretary Mokbul Hossain addressed the discussion as special guest with Betar director general Ahmed Kamruzzaman in the chair.
Additional director general (news) ASM Jahid, additional director general (programme) Salauddin Ahmed and chief engineer Akthar Hossain Majumder, among others, addressed the meeting.
Earlier, the minister joined a colourful procession in front of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) marking the country’s golden jubilee of independence and Mujib Barsho.
In the beginning of the rally, Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said many conspiracies were plotted against the country’s independence, development and progress during the way of 50-years of journey of Bangladesh.
But, the country is marching forward indomitably through trampling all conspiracies and obstacles under the dynamic leadership of prime minister Sheikh Hasina to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he added.
The minister paid rich tribute to Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the four national leaders and all martyrs.
Hasan said the persons who were expressed the apprehension that whether Bangladesh would survive or not, they are now looking at Bangladesh with surprise. Bangladesh is now food surplus country and the country has turned into a middle-income state, he added.
The minister urged all to remain alert against all conspiracies and conspirators.
AL Advisory Council Member and 14-party alliance spokesperson and coordinator Amir Hossain Amu chaired the rally while AL central leaders were present.
