Electricity price hiked by 5pc per unit

The price of electricity has been hiked yet again at the executive order of the government in a bid to reduce the pressure on subsidy in the power sector.

The raise is 5 per cent at the retail level, which would be effective from March.

A gazette was issued on Tuesday night regarding the matter. Earlier in January, the electricity price was raised in two phases.

At the gazette issued on 30 January, the price was hiked by 5 per cent in retail level and 8 per cent in wholesale. The government is adjusting the electricity price every month to reduce the pressure of subsidies in the power sector.

With this, the government increased the electricity price 11 times at wholesale level and 13 times at retail level.
