Woman killed, child injured as JSS men ‘open fire on army patrol’

An ethnic woman died and her four-year-old child was injured after Jana Samhati Samity (JSS) members allegedly opened fire on an Army patrol at Angaipara in Rowangchhari upazila, Bandarban on Friday, reports news agency UNB.

A local source of Bangladesh Army said that the incident took place around 6:00pm when an army patrol went to Angaipara after being tipped-off the presence of some JSS extortionists there.

As soon as the Army patrol reached the area, the JSS members opened fire and fled the scene, he said.

The soldiers chased them and conducted a search operation in the hilly area. At one stage, they found the injured woman and her child, he added.

The woman succumbed to her injuries on the way to Bandarban Sadar Hospital. The child was undergoing treatment there.
