‘I am not safe even from AL’

Former chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md Golam Hossain has accused a faction of Chandpur Awami League of torturing his followers and relatives.

“I am not safe even from AL, though I am involved in AL politics,” he said at a press conference in Chandpur town on Friday night.

“My followers are harassed in various ways by the cronies of the Chandpur-1 member of parliament MK Alamgir,” he alleged adding, “his men have vandalised 30 of my vehicles and filed at least 10 cases against my people.”

Golam Hossain said he as seeking AL nomination in the next general election and alleged that he was being obstructed from campaigning.

He claimed that his followers were being prevented from attending the prime minister’s public rally scheduled for Sunday at Chandpur. He is not being allowed to hire any vehicles to take his people there.

Golam Hossain said he filed a written complaint and demanded security from the local police super and officer in charge (OC) of Kachua police station Syed Mahbubur Rahman.

Mahbubur Rahman termed the matter as AL’s internal problem and claimed there was no security concern for anyone.

MK Alamgir could not be reached over phone despite several attempts by Prothom Alo.

Kachua Upazila parishad vice chairman Helal Uddin, however, rejected the allegations as false and motivated.
He accused Golam Hossain of misleading the people in order to clinch AL nomination for Chandpur-1 constituency.
