92,616 litres of soybean oil seized in Rajshahi

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection imposed a Tk 40,000 fine on Abdul Halim, the owner of Khwaja Store in Karnaphuli Complex of Chattogram city, for hoarding soybean oil

Police have seized 92,616 litres of edible oil from four godowns and a truck at Baneshwar bazar in Puthia of Rajshahi by conducting a drive on Tuesday evening.

Of the seized oil, 24,684 litres are soybean while 67,932 litres are palm oil. Police said five people, including the truck driver, were detained while the four godowns were sealed off. The preparation of the filing case is going on.

It is known that police seized 48 barrels of soybean and 26 barrels palm oil from Sarkar & Sons; 22 barrels of soybean and 120 barrels palm oil from Intaz store; 3 barrels of soybean and 100 barrels palm from Mrs Pal & Brothers and 48 barrels of soybean and 27 barrels palm oil from Rima store of Baneshwar bazar.

Apart from this, 60 more barrels of soybean were seized from a truck en route Puraton bazar in Chapainawabganj. Each barrel contains 204 litres of edible oil.

Puthia police station officer in charge Suhrawardy said the drive started at around 4:30pm. They first detained the truck and seized 60 barrels of palm oil.

Following the drive, Rajshahi additional police superintendent ABM Masud Hossain told the journalists that the amount of edible oil is being stockpiled from the outset of Ramadan to make hefty profit. The seized oil will be sold at fair prices soon via the TCB after taking approval from the court.
