Recruitment test of 8 state-run banks cancelled

The Bankers Selection Committee on Tuesday cancelled the recruitment test of the eight state-run banks of the country following protests by the candidates.

The decision came following an emergency meeting between Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir and the committee members along with chief executives of other financial organisations, said Bangladesh Bank general manager GM Abul Kalam Azad.

A five-member committee was formed in the meeting to investigate mismanagement of the recruitment tests, the BB spokesperson said.

The committee will submit their report within two weeks and then the procedure of next recruitment test will be decided upon, Abul Kalam Azad added.

The 100-mark MCQ test, held at 61 exam centres in Dhaka on Friday to fill 1,663 posts in the government banks,  was rife with mismanagement. There were no seating plans, a shortage of seats, use of mobile phones by the examinees, and question papers were leaked out before the exams.

The government formed the Bankers Selection Committee in 2015 to curb irregularities and corruption in the recruitment test of the state-owned banks.
