Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Monday hoped that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide necessary budgetary support to Bangladesh in a bid to implement vital projects.

The minister came up with this remark following a meeting with JICA president Tanaka Akihiko at the secretariat in Dhaka.

Terming Japan as the single largest bilateral development partner of Bangladesh, AHM Mustafa Kamal claimed, “Japan's budgetary support to Bangladesh at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic helped us mitigate the negative impact of pandemic, and deal with the crisis induced by the Russia-Ukraine war.”

Lauding the progress of the country’s economy, JICA president Tanaka Akihiko said Bangladesh is ahead of its neighbouring countries in different social and economic indices.

The country has reached a new height of development through achieving progress in different social sectors.

Economic relations division (ERD) secretary Sharifa Khan, Japan ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki, among others, was present in the meeting.
