Alongside the government agency, several private companies are now producing environment-friendly building materials in the country.

CONCORD Group of companies has several environment-friendly products.

Samir Uddin Ahmed, general manager of the company’s production unit, said the CONCORD Group has been manufacturing environment friendly products since 2000. The company is producing alternative of bricks for wall and roof and pavement blocks for footpath.

Samir Uddin said the use of environment-friendly instruments is on the rise in the country.

Another company, Mir Ceramics, is also manufacturing environment-friendly materials.

Executive director of the company, Shahnawaz. said they are producing environment-friendly floor tiles, wall tiles and stair tiles.

“As water treatment plants are used to produce the products, it creates less environmental pollution,” he added.

Mirpur and Khadim Ceramics have also joined the eco-friendly business.

Hanif Zaman Tipu, deputy marketing manager of the businesses, said they do not use topsoil to produce bricks.

“Their blocks, pavements, roof tiles and wall cladding are made of environment-friendly materials,” he said.

Hanif Zaman said they have manufactured a new kind of glue as an alternative of the cement to attach tiles.

Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI) director Mohammad Abu Sadeque said this is positive progress in the construction sector.

He also said there is a plan halt the use of topsoil completely 2020 as per the country’s fifth-annual plan.

“If people want to learn environment friendly technology, we are ready to provide training,” he added.
