Bangladesh born Omar Ishrak named Intel chairman

US tech giant Intel Corporation has named Bangladeshi-American businessman Omar Ishrak as the chairman of its board.

Intel on Tuesday announced that as per decision taken in the company’s 15 January board meeting Andy D Bryant stepped down as chairman and the board elected Omar Ishrak as new chairman.

"Honored to serve @intel- a company that has literally changed the world. Excited about learning more about the technology and working more closely with a wonderful team," 64-year-old Ishrak tweeted on Wednesday.

Earlier in March 2017, Omar was elected to Intel’s board of directors.
He is also the chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology, and has served in that role since 2011. Prior to joining Medtronic, Ishrak spent 16 years in various roles with General Electric Co., most recently as president and chief executive officer of GE Healthcare Systems, a division of GE Healthcare.

Ishrak earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of London, King’s College.
