Four Transcom companies receive tax awards

Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman has been honoured by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) as top taxpayer in the Dhaka City Corporation area. NBR yesterday accorded Latifur Rahman and his family recognition as ‘Kor Bahadur Paribar’ for their long-standing practice of unerring tax payment.

Eminent businessman Latifur Rahman’s son and director of Transcom Group Arshad Waliur Rahman accepted the crest on behalf of his father at a simple ceremony held on Monday at the Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
In total, four companies of Transcom Group received tax cards. Three of the winners in the print and electronic media category are of Transcom Group. These are Mediaworld, Mediastar and Transcraft. On behalf of Mediaworld, the crest and tax card was accepted by its chairperson and former caretaker government Rokia Afzal Rahman. Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman and Transcraft executive director (finance) Kamrul Hasan accepted the awards on behalf of Mediastar and Transcraft respectively. East-West Media was also awarded in this category.
Transcom Beverage was awarded as one of the top taxpayers in the food and allied category. The tax card and crest was handed over to Transcom Group finance director Atiqur Rahman.
Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, published by Mediastar and Mahfuz Anam, editor of the Daily Star, published by Mediaword, were honoured as the top taxpaying journalists. They accepted the tax cards and crests at the ceremony. Mahfuz Anam and Matiur Rahman have been awarded as top taxpayers for three consecutive years.
Also top taxpayers awarded in the journalist category were editor of the Chittagong daily Azadi, Abdul Malek, Channel i director (news) Shaikh Siraj and Bangladesh Protidin editor Naem Nizam, Special awards were given to Ekushey TV chief editor and chief executive officer Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul.
