NBR collects around 12pc more from tax fair

National Board of Revenue (NBR) has fetched Tk 2468,94,40,895 from the weeklong Income Tax Fair across the country, which is 11.35 per cent higher than the previous year.

The revenue authority collected Tk 2217,33,14,221 from the last year's fair, according to NBR officials.

They said though the fair concluded, the services offered at the fair will be available in all the tax offices from 22-30 November for the convenience of the taxpayers.

This year, some 16,36,266 people availed of various kinds of tax-related services from the fair across the country against last year's 11,69,569.

Last year, some 335,487 taxpayers submitted their income tax returns while the number stood at 487,573 this year. The number of new electronic Tax Identification Numbers (e-TINs) takers is 39,743 this year against last year's 29,254, the officials added.

Divisional cities, including Dhaka, held the Tax Fair for seven days while the fair took place for four days in 56 districts, two days in 32 upazila and one day in 70 upazilas.

30 November is the last day for submitting the income tax returns for individual taxpayers.

The new inclusion in the fair is the tax training through audio visual means and income tax returns through online.

While speaking at the closing ceremony of the fair at the Officers Club in Dhaka city on Sunday, NBR chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the people of the country are now getting the benefits of the fair, a sighted step taken by prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
