7 artistes receive Shilpakala Award

Seven cultural personalities have received the 'Shilpakal Padak 2016'.

President Abdul Hamid handed over the award to the recipients at a function at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday.

Each awardee got a cheque for Tk 1,00,000, a certificate and a crest.

The awardees are Pabitra Mohan Dey in instrumental music, Md Golam Mostafa Khan in dance, Golam Mustafa in photography, Kalidas Karmaker in fine arts, Sirajuddin Pathan in folk culture, Syed Jamil Ahmed in dramatics and Mita Haque in music.

A 16-member nomination committee, comprising of the BSA director general secretary, six directors, seven cultural personalities and one representative of the cultural affairs ministry, selected the names.

The award is conferred for outstanding contribution to 12 sectors -- music, instrumental music, dance, dramatics, fine arts, recitation, photography, jatrashilpa, film, creative organiser, cultural researcher and folklore.

Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, cultural affairs secretary Md Ibraheem Hosein Khan and Shilpakala Academy director general Liaquat Ali Lucky were, among others, present on the occasion.
