Bangladeshi filmmaker Kamar Ahmed Simon has won the prestigious 9th Asian Pitch contest in Singapore. This is the second time he won this award.
MediaCorp, one of the leading media management company of Singapore and one of the organisers of the contest, informed Kamar through a letter that the script of his next documentary film titled Neel Shirostran has been named as one of the winners.
Every year, four Asian TV channels - NHK of Japan, KBS of South Korea, PTS of Taiwan, and MediaCorp of Singapore, organise this contest where directors from various Asian countries are awarded for their original script.
The organisers will bear the overall expense of Kamar’s documentary. Moreover, the documentary will be screened in prime time slot in all four organising channels. They will take charge of publicising the documentary worldwide as well.
“I am very happy to win this international award for the second time. However, recognition not only brings happiness, it also increases the level of responsibility quite a lot,” said Kamar.
In 2013, Kamar won the Asian Pitch for the first time for the script of his documentary film Ekti Shutar Jobanbondi. The film was broadcasted in Japan’s NHK channel last year, and soon will be aired in the other three networks as well.
Kamar is planning to release the new movie locally around the end of the year.
This year, 135 scripts from 12 Asian countries were submitted in the contest. After primary selection, 10 scripts were picked. Of those scripts, four have been awarded as winners. Apart from Kamar, directors from India and China won as well.
Kamar’s first movie Shunte Ki Pao won the national award and 10 international awards .
