Nashid to sing at Benaras festival

'Art beyond borders’ an organization of India, is organizing its second festival in Varanasi, India. Six artists from Bangladesh -Jamal Ahmed, Vinita Karim, Muniruzzaman, Rafiqune Nabi , Farida Zaman and Sultan Ishtiaque will be participating in this festival of 'Artists in residence’. As the sole performing artist Prof Nashid Kamal has been invited from Bangladesh. There will be participants from both India and Nepal and the main organizer Ms. Sandhya Singh Parmar hopes that it shall soon turn into a SAARC event. Last year it was held in Lucknow, India.

Nashid Kamal will be singing Nazrul songs, Bangladeshi folk, Hindi bhajans and semi classical numbers as well as Urdu ghazals on the 19th of September in the ghaats of Varanasi where the occasion will be held.

Dr. Nashid Kamal is an eminent cultural personality, receiving the Nazrul Institute award in 2013 for music and translation. She has 15 cds to her credit, ten of them are of Nazrul shongeet. Her latest cd, released 21 May 2016, carries 12 songs with a complete description of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s life in between, titled 'Gane gane Nazrul jeeboni’. Her translation includes 100 songs (into English) of Nazrul in two volumes 'The return of Laili’, and 22 ballads of Nazrul Islam in the book titled Chokrobak. She has also translated the biography of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and autobiography of Abbasuddin Ahmed.


In Kolkata, Nashid Kamal will be performing Nazrul songs on the popular channel 'Tara Muzik’ on the 22 nd of September in 'aj shokaler amontrone’. She was earlier attached with Tara Bangla and hosted 52 shows with the luminaries of Bangla viz.

Sunil Gongopadhay, Haimanti Sukle, Saswati Sen(danseuse), Narayan Sannyal and others. This program was aired every week and titled 'Bangla amar Bangla’.
