Serajul Islam Chy to receive Altaf Mahmud award

Renowned academic Serajul Islam Chowdhury will receive this year’s Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Smriti Padak for his outstanding contribution as author, researcher, critic and columnist.

The announcement was made on Thursday.

Shaon Mahmud, member secretary of the Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation and also daughter of Altaf Mahmud, told Prothom Alo that Serajul Islam Chowdhury will be presented the award at a ceremony on 30 August at 6:30pm at the city’s Liberation War Museum.

Art critic Mofidul Hoque will be present on behalf of the foundation to speak on the occasion, added Shaon.

“We are proud to honour Serajul Islam Chowdhury with the Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Smriti Padak,” she said.
Altaf Mahmud was a music conoisseur, cultural activist, and martyred freedom fighter.

He was also a language movement veteran and composer of the famous song ‘Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushey February’.
