Jannatul Nayeem stripped of Miss World Bangladesh title

Jannatul Nayeem has finally been stripped of her Miss World Bangladesh title on fraud charges and Jessia Islam has been crowned the new winner.

The event organiser Antar Showbiz made the announcement at a press conference at the capital’s Westin hotel on Wednesday evening.

“Jannatul Nayeem had hid her marital status which gave birth to a widespread controversy over the title. So we’ve decided to strip of the title and are declaring the first runner up, Jessia Islam, as Miss World Bangladesh,” Antar Showbiz chairman Swapan Chowdhury told the media conference.

Jannatul was crowned Miss World Bangladesh 2017 on 29 September. But, she took part in the contest hiding her marital status.

She was married to a Chittagong businessman some four years ago. And the first and foremost criterion for participating in this contest is that one has to be unmarried.

Again, judges of the event alleged that Jannatul was not on the judges' choice list. They had picked Jessia Islam, first runner-up of the contest, as the winner.

“Jannatul Nayeem was not even on the list of our top three winners.”

At the grand finale, no sooner had presenter Sheena declared Jannatul Sumaiya as Miss World Bangladesh than Antar Showbiz chairman Swapan Chowdhury took the microphone from Sheena and declared that Jannatul Nayeem, not Janaatul Sumaiya, was Miss World Bangladesh.

This incident created major confusion for all.

Now Jessia Islam will compete in the 67th Miss World beauty pageant to be held at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China on 18 November 2017.

The grand finale of Lovello Miss World Bangladesh was held at the Noborattri Hall of the International Convention City in Bashundhara on Friday.
