Singer Shafiul Alam Raza found dead

Journalist and folk singer Shafiul Alam Raza was found dead at his music school in Pallabi area of Dhaka on Sunday.

According to his family, Shafiul, 48, might have died of a cardiac arrest.

Shafiul's family members said that he used to run a music school, Kalatan, in Pallabi from where his body was recovered by breaking open the door of a room in the afternoon.

Contacted, Pallabi police station officer-in-charge Imranul Islam said, "His family informed us that he suffered a cardiac arrest. However, we're looking into the incident."

Shafiul, a popular Bhawaiya singer, was born in Kurigram's Chilmari upazila. He was an enlisted singer of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, and the director of music school Kalatan.

As a journalist, Shafiul worked for several media outlets. He was the former chief reporter of Bangla online news portal priyo.com. He also worked for Daily Jugantor, Daily Janakantha and Daily Orthaniti.

A permanent member of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), Shafiul left behind two children to mourn his death.
