‘Gondi’ to bring people back to movie halls: Suborna

‘Gondi’, starring Subarna Mustafa, is being released in 13 cinema halls on Friday. Award-winning actress of the small and big screens, Subarna is also a member of parliament and recipient of the Ekushey Padak. She shares some of her likes, dislikes and thoughts during a brief chitchat with Prothom Alo.

Prothom Alo: How was your experience working in the movie ‘Gondi’?

Suborna Mustafa: Simply excellent.

Prothom Alo: ‘Gondi’ is a story of friendship. Have you become friends with co-star Sabyasachi?  

Suborna Mustafa: I enjoyed working with Sabyasachi. But I have become friends with director Fakhrul Arefin.

Prothom Alo: Who are your three best friends?

Suborna Mustafa: Sara Gulshan, Raju Jamaly and Badrul Anam Saud.

Prothom Alo: What are you busy with at the moment?

Suborna Mustafa: My entire attention is focussed on the parliament right now. I am very busy with my duties as a member of parliament. There is Mujib Borsho (17 March 2020-17 March 2021) in the offing. Then again, the winter sessions in parliament at the beginning of the year are generally long. This is a new experience for me, but very interesting. At the end of the day, I am working for the people. I didn’t know the details of passing laws and point of order and such things before. I take this work seriously and apply myself wholly to the task. I am also busy with a serial on BTV. The directors are aware of my schedule and adjust accordingly. If you are organised, you can get a lot of work done.

Prothom Alo: Have you signed up for any new movie?

Suborna Mustafa: No.

Prothom Alo: Why should people go to see ‘Gondi’?

Suborna Mustafa: I am no one to say what the people should watch or not watch. I have an objection to the word ‘should’. All I can say is that ‘Gondi’ is a good film. It is a celebration of friendship. The pairing between me and Sabyasachi is something new. And the director has told the story in a different way. But it is entirely up to the viewers what they will watch or not watch.

Prothom Alo: The film premiered on Wednesday. How was it, watching the completed movie?

Suborna Mustafa: I felt that the movie goers would leave the hall with a good feeling after seeing this film. Many of the invited guests told me that such cinema would bring the people back to the movie theatres. The film’s message was simple and poignant. All over the world, and in Bangladesh too, retired people of that age face this same sort of crisis.
