Busy needle workers at Geneva Camp
The embroidery hub at the Geneva camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka is now abuzz. The needleworkers are busy around the clock on the eve of Eid as embroidered outfits are high in demand during this period. They try to come up with unique designs each Eid, though the Indian clothes have caused a decline in the demand for their work. It takes seven or eight hours to complete the embroidery of a single outfit. The payment varies between Tk 500 to 1,500. Prothom Alo’s Sabina Yesmin captured moments of the embroidery work at the Geneva camp recently.
