Bangla Academy on Wednesday celebrated the 158thbirth anniversary of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, reports UNB.

A colourful event featuring keynote, Rabindra Award 2019 giving ceremony and cultural programme at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium enthralled the spectators.

Professor Anwarul Karim delivered the keynote titled “Rabindranath’s Bangladesh: His thoughts on Education and Country”.

Rabindra researchers professor Begum Akter Kamal and professor Safiuddin Ahmed and Rabindra Sangeet singer Iqbal Ahmed were bestowed with “Rabindra Puroshkar 2019”.

The awards and prize money worth TK 50,000 was handed over at the event.

Bangla Academy president emeritus professor Anisuzzaman and director general Habibullah Siraji handed over flowers, certificates, crests and prize money.

Professor Anisuzzaman presided over the programme while the academy DG delivered the welcome speech.

The event was ended with a colourful cultural presentation on Rabindranath Tagore's life and versatile works.
