Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini called on FIFA to reduce the four-month ban on Luis Suarez for biting him after the Uruguayan's apology Monday.

"It's all forgotten. I hope FIFA will reduce your suspension," the Italy player said in a Twitter statement released less than an hour after Suarez said he "deeply" regretted the bite and apologised to Chiellini.

Suarez posted an apology on his official Twitter account, saying "I deeply regret" the clash with the Juventus defender.

"The truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite that occurred in the collision he suffered with me," said the statement.
