Cruel, inhuman!
Both the hands are tied behind his back. People are beating him mercilessly with a roller- a teenager is screaming for help and yelling, "I'm dying. Please, save me." Even after that, the cruelty did not end at all. He was dripping sweat oozing from his entire body from head to toe. He then begged the torturers around him, "Let me have some water, please." But the cruel faces replied, "Drink your sweat."
And the teenager finally died at one stage of the inhuman tortures by some beasts in human form as none came forward to save his life.
The above description of brutality is not of any film; rather a description depicted in a video footage of torturing a teenager in Sylhet recently. The footage filmed at Kumargaon bus stoppage in Sylhet on 8 July was mailed to Prothom Alo. Locals sent the 28:52 minute video to the Prothom Alo’s Sylhet office.
The torturers themselves filmed the scene of tortures.
The victim, Md Samiul Alam, also known as Rajan, 13, was caught for alleged theft. He was a vegetable vendor in the area, tortured to death for alleged theft.
Samiul was a resident of Bade Ali village near Kumargaon bus-stop. He was the elder son of Azizur Rahman, a microbus driver. When he failed to get a rent-a-car to drive, Samiul, or Rajan as he was called, usually went to the market to sell vegetables.
The torturers tried to dump Rajan's body, but they coulddidn't. Police detained Muhith Alam, 35, a resident of Kumargaon of Sylhet, on charges of torturing the boy to death.
Sylhet city’s Jalalabad police station officer-in-charge, Akter Hossain, said police filed a murder case against Quamrul Islam, 24, brother of the principal accused Muhith, his assistant Ali Haidar alias Ali, 34, guard Moina Mian alias Boro Moina, 45, in connection with torturing Samiul.
Police sought a seven-day remand for Muhith. The court was scheduled to hold hearing on the remand plea on Sunday.
Samiul's mother, Lubna Aktar said, that Samiul went to market to sell vegetables on the fateful day. "When we did not hear from Samiul even by night time, we went to file a general diary (GD) with the nearby police station but we found the body of Samiul there."
Lubna said, "My son is not a thief. Local people know my son well."
She demands justice for her son's murder.
