Fatema secures first gold in fencing for Bangladesh

Fencer Fatema Mujib secured the first gold medal for Bangladesh in women’s sabre individual of fencing discipline in the 13th South Asian Games at Kirtipur Covered Hall in Nepal Capital Kathmandu on Saturday, reports UNB.

Bangladeshi weightlifters Mabia Aktar Simanta and Jiarul Islam bagged two gold medals in their respective categories on the same day.

Mabia Aktar clinched the day’s first gold medal for Bangladesh in the women’s senior-76 kgs while Jiarul bagged 2nd gold medal in men’s 96 kgs.

Earlier, Bangladeshi fencers clinched three bronze medals on the opening day of fencing discipline of the ongoing regional meet on Friday.

Mohima Akter Mou clinched bronze medal in women's foil individual, fencer Md Efta Kharul Alam Bipul earned bronze in men's sabre individual and fencer Md Imtiaj claimed bronze in the men's epee individual.
