Germany's anti-Ronaldo plan worked to perfection during the 4-0 destruction handed down in Salvador on Sunday, says Jerome Boateng, the man asigned the unenviable task of marking the world player of the year in the Group G clash.

"The whole team worked together, with a player like that, he'll always beat his man, so you have to make sure the next one is there, that was the key," said the Bayern Munich defender.

"Until his free-kick, he didn't really do anything," he added.

It was the fourth time in a row Ronaldo has lost to Germany after defeats at the 2006 World Cup, plus the 2008 and 2012 European championships.

The 29-year-old World Player of the Year endured an afternoon to forget at Salvador's Arena Fonte Nova where he was over-shadowed by Thomas Mueller's hat-trick.
