Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has confirmed he has quit the Super Eagles in the wake of Monday's last-16 loss to France.

Keshi, who captained his country at the 1994 World Cup, took charge of Nigeria in 2011 and led them on a brilliant run to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Nigeria started the World Cup with a bore draw with Iran, but then beat Bosnia and proved themselves worthy rivals to ex-World Champions Argentina and France.

The 52-year-old is reported to be close to becoming the new manager of South Africa.
