Mamunul retires from national duty

Bangladesh captain Mamunul Islam has announced his retirement from the national team after being left out of the squad for the Asian Cup play-off against Bhutan.
The ace midfielder sent a letter to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) on Monday to convey his decision.
"It seems the national team does not need me anymore," said Mamunul. "He (the coach) could have informed me about the omission. I am feeling very insulted," he added.
"I was injured prior to the Maldives game and I was told to get prepared for the Bhutan match. I worked hard to get fit for this game. I have been playing for so long. He could have discussed this with me," lamented the player who made his debut in 2009.
Mamunul was made the captain of the national team in 2013 and had been an ever-present face since then, abrring one or two occasions.
