Shakib wins Rupchanda-Prothom Alo Sports Award

Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan has won the Rupchanda-Prothom Alo Sports Award for the year 2017.

The all-rounder beat fellow team-mate Mushfiqur Rahim and athlete Azharul Islam to the title as the pair jointly became runners up.

Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza won the Popular Choice Award, based on the votes of Prothom Alo readers.

The winners were handed over the awards at a programme at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Sonargaon on Monday.

Bangladesh national women's football team captain Sabina Khatun was named the Sportswoman of the Year while hockey legend Pratap Shankar Hazra won the Lifetime Achievement award.

Grameenphone-Prothom Alo Sports Award was first introduced in 2004. In 2014, it became Rupchada-Prothom Alo Sports Award.
