Following Shakib Al Hasan’s acceptance of three charges for breaching the anti-corruption code, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday banned the Bangladesh T20 and Test captain of the Tigers from all cricket for two years.

The ban was given just for not reporting approaches by a certain gambler named Aggarwal.

The ICC, however, has suspended one year of the punishment upon Shakib’s acceptance of the charges.

A report on the ICC website reads, “The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan from all cricket for two years, with one year of that suspended, after he accepted three charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.”
He may resume the play on 29 October 2020 “subject to his satisfying the conditions in respect of the suspended part of the sanction.”

The cricket watchdog published the details of the confessional statement recorded during his interviews with the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).

The exact detail of the revelation is given as follows:

1. In November 2017, he was a member of the Dhaka Dynamites team, a team which participated in the Bangladesh Premier League, played between 4 November and 12 December 2017.

2. He was aware that his telephone number had been provided to Mr Aggarwal by another person who was known to Mr Al Hasan. Mr Aggarwal had asked this other person to provide him with contacts for players playing in the Bangladesh Premier League.

3. In mid-November 2017, at the instigation of Mr Aggarwal, he exchanged various WhatsApp messages with Mr Aggarwal in which Mr Aggarwal sought to meet him.

4. In January 2018, he was selected as part of the Bangladesh team participating in a Tri-Series between Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. During this series, he and Mr Aggarwal engaged in further WhatsApp conversations.
