BCB donates Tk 5m for athletes of different federations

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has donated BDT 5 million for athletes other than cricketers, reports UNB.

Nazmul Hassan, the BCB president, handed over 501 cheques of BDT 10,000 each on Wednesday to the as part of the BCB's initiative to support athletes affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The cheques were distributed to sportsmen and women of 23 sports federations under the National Sports Council other than cricket.

Secretary for the ministry Mohammad Akhtar Hossain and BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury were also present during the cheque handover.

Earlier, BCB extended their helping hand to the cricketers who are not under any contract with the board, whose earnings were blighted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

BCB also planned to help more than 1500 cricketers before Eid with financial aid so that they can celebrate Eid well.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all cricketing activities are on hold in the country since the mid of March.

It is uncertain when the cricket will resume in the country.

Along with cricket, all sporting events are also on hold which left many athletes unemployed.
