Paraguay stunned one of the tournament favourites by defeating Germany 4-3 in the first penalty shootout of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the teams were locked 1-1 through extra time. The South Americans held their nerve from the spot as Germany suffered a shock Round of 32 exit.
