Investigation into Shakib Al Hasan’s breach of anti-corruption code during a 2018 IPL game was fully handled by the International Cricket Corporation (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had nothing to do with it, said BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) head Ajit Singh.
Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan was banned from all forms of cricket on Tuesday for two years by the ICC, with one year of that sentence suspended, for failing to report corrupt approach on three separate occasions, including one during 2018 IPL by an alleged Indian bookie Deepak Aggarwal.
Question raised in different quarters whether Indian cricket board had anything to do with the investigation against Shakib.
"That particular IPL season we are referring to, the anti-corruption matters were handled by the ICC. So the complete investigation was carried out by the ICC. The BCCI has no role in it," several Indian media quoted BCCI's ACU head Ajit Singh as saying.
He also told Indian media that they had given necessary information about alleged bookie Aggarwal but the entire investigation was carried out by the ICC ACU.
