Rain forces early stumps in Ctg Test

Rain brought an early end to the second day’s play in the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa in Chittagong on Wednesday.

Bangladesh, replying to South Africa’s first innings total of 248, were 179-4 when rain stopped play for a second time moments after the game resumed at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the third session.

Match officials called off play at 4:50pm local time (GMT 10:50) with 25 overs left in the day.

Riding on two fifties by Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal and middle order batsman Mohammad Mahmudullah, Bangladesh reached 179-4 in 67 overs.

Mahmudullah was lbw at 67 runs while Tamim was bowled out for 57 runs.

The Tigers posted a resistance against South Africa after the Bangladesh lost the top orders Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque for just fifty runs.

S van Zyl, D Elgar, SR Harmer, and Philander took one wicket each. Imrul was stumped in a Zyl’s ball at 26 runs while Harmer bowled Mominul Haque at his 6 runs.
