BOU plays vital role in Gaibandha education

Bangladesh Open University (BOU), a public university located at Board Bazar, Gazipur, has been playing vital role in spreading quality education to all sections of citizens here for long.

According to sources the BOU was established in October, 1992 aimed at ensuring education for all in the country through open and distance learning system and excelling as a carter of higher education.

A few years later, the BOU started its SSC programme for the learners to link other parts of the country in 1994 and since then, it has been running for the learners.

At present, SSC, HSC, BA/BSS, Bachelor of Agriculture Education (BAgEd), and certificate in livestock and poultry (CLP) programmes are being conducted here by the university.

The SSC programme is running at Nizam Uddin High School and Gaibandha Govt Boys’ High School under Sadar upazila, Bamondanga MM High School under Sundarganj upazila, Bardhankuthi Pilot High School and Mohimaganj Girls’ High School under Gobindaganj upazila, Fulchhari Pilot High School under Fulchhari upazila of the district.

The HSC programme is running at Gaibandha Govt College and Gaibandha Adarsha College under Sadar upazila, Sundarganj Women’s Degree College under Sundarganj upazila, Fulchhari Degree College under Fulchhari upazila and Shamim and Shakil Technical College under Gobindaganj upazila.

The BA/BSS programme is being conducted at Gaibandha Govt College and Gaibandha Adarsha College under Sadar upazila, Gobindaganj College under Gobindaganj upazila, Fulchhari Degree College under Fulchhari upazila and Sundarganj Women’s College under Sundarganj upazila.

The CLP programme is running at Livestock Training Institute and the BAgEd at Agriculture Training Institute of the district town, office sources said.

As many as 400 learners of SSC programme, 600 of HSC programme and 700 of BA/BSS programme are taking tutorial classes at the tutorials centres to achieve their desired certificates during the current session.

Sub regional centre located on Gaibandha-Palashbari Road, at Dhanghara area under Ballamjhar union of Sadar upazila, is supervising the programmes and conducting other activities on behalf of the BOU.

The head teachers and the principals of the respective institute are performing their duties to run the programmes smoothly as the coordinator, said an official of BOU.

Deputy regional director of BOU Aynul Haque said after getting admitted to the programmes through completing officials procedures the modules were provided to the learners to study it at their houses.

If the learners faced any difficulties to understand the questions of the modules, they would attend their tutorial classes of the respective tutorial centres on Friday to solve it with the help of tutors assigned by the BOU, he added.

In reply to a query, the exams of all programmes were held on holiday (Friday) so that the service holders and the businessmen could appear the exams smoothly, he concluded.
