Unified question papers for all boards in SSC, HSC exams from 2018

All education boards will have unified question papers for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) exams from the year of 2018.

Officials at the education ministry and Dhaka Education Board said this decision was taken to reduce disparity in the results among different education boards.

The education ministry on Tuesday sent a letter to the chairman of the intra-board coordination committee over the issue.

The ministry also directed the authorities to consider all possible challenges for exams with the unified question papers.

Dhaka Education Board chairman professor Mahabubur Rahman said once the examinations have been taken with the unified question papers, it will help put checks and balances in evaluation of the examinees.

“It will be helpful for examinees during entrance exams for the higher education,” he added.

Motijheel Ideal School and College’s principal Shahan Ara Begum do not think so.

She said the syllabus was always same for everyone.

“If a student completes the syllabus, s/he should have an ability to answer any types of questions in the exams,” she added.

A Dhaka Education Board official told Prothom Alo that the examinations of the creative section used to be held with unified question papers since 2014.

After continuous leaks of question papers, the board authorities withdrew the decision and started taking the examinations with separate question papers for each board.

As a result, the fresh rules created huge inequalities in results between the boards. Nearly 38 per cent students, for example, failed to pass in English in the HSC examination under Comilla Education Board this year.

On the other hand, the pass rate of the Dhaka education board was 69.74 percent.

Chowdhury Mufad Ahmed, additional secretary of the Higher Secondary and Higher Education Division said the decision has been taken considering all the possible things in this regard.

The examinees will benefit from this new system, he added.
