BCS edu cadre: 1,084 teachers promoted to associate professors

As many as 1,084 assistant professors have been promoted to associate professors in the education cadre of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

The Secondary and Higher Education Division (SHED) under the education ministry issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday.

It said the promoted officials will join the SHED as official on special duty (OSD) and will continue their previous duties and responsibilities until further notice.

The education cadre is one of the largest cadres in BCS. Over 13,000 officials are now working in the cadre while the number of total posts is around 15,500.

Most of the officials of the education cadre work as teachers in government colleges. Some work in various education-related offices such as DSHE, National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), education boards and National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM).

However, promotion of assistant professors and associated professors remained halted for three years.

Even, a group of officials in BCS education cadre sent a letter to the prime minister Sheikh Hasina requesting her to take necessary action in this regard.

Finally assistant professors were promoted to associate professor. Now, lecturers are supposed to be promoted as assistant professors.
