SUST students declare VC Farid Uddin persona non grata

Agitating students of SUST allegedly tried to attack the vice chancellor on Sunday

Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have declared their vice-chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed persona non grata protesting the police attack on students on Sunday that left at least 50 students injured.

Demonstrating students informed the development to the media at around 1:15pm on Monday at university’s Golchattor.

Students alleged VC Farid Uddin has no concern over the students. That is the reason why he called the police to the campus and the law enforcers carried out the attack on the students. They want a student-friendly new vice chancellor.

Earlier, several hundred students of SUST had agitated on Sunday night demanding resignation of the vice chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed.

The students started their agitation, protesting police attack on students on Sunday and the authorities’ decision to shut the campus sine die.

Some students also brought out a procession on Monday morning while some students were seen leaving the residential halls.

The SUST authorities asked residential students of five halls to vacate the halls within 12 noon on Monday. VC Farid declared the university shut on Sunday night following an emergency syndicate meeting.
