‘2000 physicians to be recruited through fresh BCS’

The government has decided to recruit 2,000 more physicians through fresh Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, according to sources at Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).

The health and family welfare ministry has sent a demand letter to the BPSC to initiate the recruitment process.

PSC at a special meeting on Monday finalised the recruitment rules in this regard, sources said.

Wishing not to be named, a PSC official said they wanted to recruit physicians from 38th and 39th BCS, but the ministry is interested to recruit through fresh BCS exams, the official added.

However, the candidates, who passed the 38th and the 39th BCS, demanded to be recruited.

It takes years to complete a BCS exam, they pointed out.

The results of the 39th special BCS exam were published in April 2019. Some 4,443 physicians were recruited from the 39th BCS, and 8,360 candidates were kept waiting for non-cadre posts. However, the government recruited 2,000 more physicians in cadre posts on an emergency basis to tackle the coronavirus pandemic. As many as 6,360 candidates are still waiting.

The government published results of 38th general BCS for all cadre posts last month (June). A section of candidates, who are physicians and passed this BCS, also demand recruitment.
