SAF scholarship for Bangladeshi students in SAARC countries

The South Asia Foundation (SAF) has announced scholarships up to 100 per cent for Bangladeshi students wishing to pursue undergraduate and graduate courses in the seven SAARC countries.

All the SAF scholarships affiliated with UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institutions of Excellence cover travel, tuition and living expenses, said acting secretary of SAF's Bangladesh chapter Bachchu Shekh.

''We start the process of collecting CVs [curriculum vitae] from eligible applicants from the month of March to June every year. We finalise the students for the scholarship assessing their academic records and interview performance,'' he told Prothom Alo.

The acting secretary of SAF Bangladesh also said that some 60 Bangladeshi students so far have completed their courses in various universities of the SAARC countries since the Bangladesh chapter of SAF started its journey in 2006 in the country.

''Coming back to Bangladesh, the successful students join variety of professions in different fields,'' he added.

The courses offered under the SAF scholarship include Preservation of Cultural Heritage (Kabul, Afghanistan), Forestry Studies (Bumthang, Bhutan), Journalism (Chennai, India), Kashmir Studies (Srinagar, India), Regional Cooperation (Pondicherry, India), Green Energy Technology (Pondicherry, India), Climate Research (Maldives), Development Studies (Kathmandu, Nepal), Visual Arts (Lahore, Pakistan), South Asian Studies (Lahore, Pakistan), Water Management (Moratuwa, Sri Lanka).
