Quota protesters on Sunday staged a two-hour demonstration in colleges and universities across the country demanding immediate issuance of gazette notification abolishing quota system in public services.

Agitated students began observing their strike around 11:00am by suspending classes and examinations, reports UNB.

The demonstrators hold a human chain on Dhaka University campus demanding the issuance of gazette notification as per the announcement made by prime minister Sheikh Hasina in parliament on 11 April.

On Wednesday, Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad (General Students Rights Protection Council) gave the government a 24-hour ultimatum to publish the gazette notification.

Convener of the alliance Hasan Al Mamun came up with the announcement from a press briefing as the government failed to publish a gazette by Thursday.
