2-day law conference begins at DU

The two-day 1st senior advocate Ozair Farooq memorial law conference, "Law, Justice and Society", began at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday, reports UNB.

Chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The DU faculty of law organised the event.

DU vice-chancellor professor Md Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inaugural function while attorney general Mahbubey Alam and president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Zainul Abedin addressed it as special guests.

Former chairman of National Human Rights Commission professor Mizanur Rahman, professor Muhammad Ekramul Haque and lawyer Mohammad Imtiaz Farooq also spoke on the occasion.

Dean of the faculty of law professor Md Rahmat Ullah delivered the welcome speech while acting chairman of the law department professor Md Nazrul Islam gave the vote of thanks.

Chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain recalled the outstanding contribution of late advocate Ozair Farooq to promoting legal profession in Bangladesh.

He thanked the organisers for arranging this conference and hoped that the conference would create a common platform for young law academicians to develop legal research.
