‘Our graduates should develop skills for job market’

UGC chairman professor Abdul Mannan on Monday suggested the Bangladeshi graduates to develop their competency for national and international job markets, reports UNB.

He came up with the remarks while talking at the stakeholders' consultation meeting on Research and Development of Bangladesh's Higher Education, held at University Grants Commission (UGC).

"Our graduates are focused on only for the government job. But it's high time to change their mindsets. World is opened before us. Multifarious job options at private sectors and international markets are waiting for our graduates. Be prepared and make eligible for it," he said.

UGC organised the meeting and invited the SPM's of HEQEP sub-project and representatives from the World Bank to discuss the proposed 'Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation' (HEAT) project, said a press release issued today.

UGC chairman professor Abdul Mannan graced the function as the chief guest.

UGC Member professor Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah presided over the programme where UGC Member professor Dil Afroza Begum presented a keynote paper on Research Scenario and Future Needs of Bangladesh.

UGC secretary Md Khaled, Md. Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury, additional secretary, ministry of education, WB senior operations officer Mokhlesur Rahman, spoke on the occasion.

Representatives from World Bank, JICA, high officials from UGC were also present.

World Bank (WB) is taking the initiative to run the five-year long HEAT project emphasising on graduate employability and governance including excellence in women's education.
