Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has demanded that the elections to Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) be deferred by at least three months, reports UNB.

The JCD is the student wing of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

JCD general secretary Akramul Hasan made the demand at a press conference at Madhur Canteen of the university on Sunday.

"We want stable political coexistence for all the student organisations on the campus. We couldn't come to the campus for the past eight years. We've just started coming to the campus. We need some time to prepare ourselves as we couldn't run our activities for a long time."

He also urged the university authorities to take necessary steps to set up polling centres at academic buildings instead of residential halls and ensure an environment so that JCD activists can stay at dormitories.

JCD DU unit president Al Mehedi Talukder and general secretary Bashar Siddique were, among others, present at the press conference.

Earlier, around 40-50 leaders and activists, led by the JCD general secretary, arrived at the Madhur Canteen around 11:00am.

The elections to DUCSU and hall unions will be held on 11 March next after long 29 years.
