Pro-BNP teachers and employees of Rajshahi University (RU) on Tuesday continued their demonstration on the campus for third consecutive day protesting against the sentencing of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a graft case, reports UNB.

They also demanded immediate release of the BNP chief and withdrawal of all cases filed against her and party's senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

They also observed a two-hour hunger strike in front of the university senate building at 11:00am to press home their demands.

Over two hundred teachers and employees of the university under the banner of 'Nationalist Teacher's Forum' observed the hunger-strike programme.

Addressing the programme, the speakers alleged that the government was trying to destroy country's democratic practice, fearing that Awami League may not be able to stand against BNP if a fair election is held.

Nationalist Teacher's Forum convener professor Enamul Hauqe said that by cancelling the system of caretaker government in the parliament, the ruling party has changed the democratic way of changing government through a fair voting.

"Today, the opposition teachers, leaders and activists cannot express their opinions freely--They cannot move freely--The whole Bangladesh is now a prison", he added.

Forum's president KBM Mahbubur Rahman, joint secretary professor Iftikharul Islam, members professor GM Shafi, professor Hasanath Ali, professor Abdul Hai Talukdar, Bangladesh Jatiyabadi and Muktijuddhe Bisshashi Shikkhok Forum's convener professor Enamul Hauqe and RU Teacher's Association former president professor Azhar Ali also spoke.
