Reinstating caretaker govt not possible: AL tells US ambassador

Awami-League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said they told the US ambassador it is not possible to bring back the caretaker government while meeting him at the US embassy in Dhaka.

The leaders of the ruling party called on Peter Haas on Wednesday afternoon.  

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, came up with this disclosure on Wednesday while addressing an event at TSC auditorium on Dhaka University campus.

He called upon the BNP leaders to stop thinking about the restoration of the caretaker government.  

The AL leader said, "Today went to the American embassy and told them that it is not possible to return to the so-called caretaker government again."  

The 15th amendment repealed the caretaker government system. Then the national elections were held under the government of Sheikh Hasina in 2014 and 2018.

BNP didn’t participate in the 2014 national election while the party won only in seven constituencies in the 2018 election in which BNP claimed votes were rigged.
