College student Rajib Hossain, who had lost his hand in a road accident when two buses tried to overtake each other on 3 April, succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday.
The family of Rajib and sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, a police official on duty at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed this to Prothom Alo.
Rajib’s maternal uncle Zahidul Islam told Prothom Alo that his life support was removed around 12:40am.
A second-year undergraduate student of Titumir College, Rajib was travelling on a double decker BRTC bus that day. He was standing on the doorway at the back of the bus with his hand partially out, when another bus recklessly overtook, severing his hand. The accident took place in the city's Karwan Bazar area.
The 21-year-old then was rushed to Samorita Hospital, but the physicians there could not re-join the severed hand.
He was then shifted to DMCH where he was undergoing treatment.
